The Simple Way to Maintain Your Weight & Health During the Holidays

Take out a piece of paper, because I’m going to have you brainstorm for a minute with me. Think about all the upcoming events, traditions, and celebrations you’ll be having in the next month and a half. Out of everything you do, what are your favorite indulgences? The ones you look forward to all year. For me, the list includes pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, and my aunt’s Italian Christmas cookies. Those foods, and the memories made while making and enjoying those foods, mean a lot to me.

So while I am committed to living a blood sugar-balanced life, I’m also committed to living life to the fullest and celebrating with those who mean the most to me. I’m willing to bet you’d also like to enjoy the holidays and maintain your weight and health in these coming weeks.

Now, take a look at your mouth-watering list of treats. These are the foods you should enjoy, guilt-free, this holiday season. Eating these (in a reasonable portion) should be enjoyable. There’s no cheating here, just living intentionally.

But here’s the catch: I now want you to jot down all the unhealthy foods that you know you’ll be exposed to in the near future. (The crusty brownies someone leaves at your house after a party, the candy bowl in the staff lounge, the stale candy on your child’s gingerbread house… the list goes on, I’m sure). Those are the foods that may tempt you all month long, but they bring very little joy to your life. They likely don’t even taste very good, and they probably leave you feeling frustrated with yourself after eating them. I’d like you to commit right now to saying no to those foods, so that you can wholeheartedly say yes to the ones you do truly enjoy.

Live with intention this season, and enter the new year feeling proud and motivated rather than aggravated and unwell. You’ve got this! I believe in you.

XO,

Kara
